Carrying out sustainable fishery, the squids are caught off the Galician coasts and selected according to their size. he 2014 Valbuena, mostly Tempranillo with some 5% Merlot fermented by plot, making a selection from their 210 hectares of vineyards, and then matured in a combination of barriques and larger 20,000-liter oak vats. 2014 is a spectacular vintage of Valbuena, and it reminds me of the 2010, perhaps a tad more elegant and less powerful. It's expressive and has floral notes on the nose along with wild berries, herbs and a spicy and smoky touch that's nicely integrated. It has good complexity and nuance, and the palate is medium to full-bodied and intense, with pungent flavors and great length and persistence

Viña Ijalba Maturana Blanca
From the varieties of yesterday spring the wines of today. Maturana Blanca is first referenced in Rioja in 1622. Its long trajectory is a path of comings and goings, until it was virtually extinct a few years ago. In its efforts to recuperate local native varieties Viña Ijalba began its ecological cultivation to the point where they were able to present this monovarietal wine. It is a very subtle wine, surprising both for its elegance and its persistence in the mouth.

A blackened, oaky finish is a touch syrupy in feel but quite deep and long.

Vega Sicilia Unico 2009
It's mostly Tempranillo with some 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and aged for almost six years in 225-liter French and American oak barrels and 20,000-liter oak vats. The extra time in bottle has helped the wine to develop its bouquet, and it feels very aromatic and open, with the classical Vega Sicilia perfume of yesteryear, earthy, leafy and spicy, even if they wine was kept because of its power. It's still powerful, but at the same time it's elegant and has a polished mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins. 93,545 bottles, 2,391 magnums, 146 double magnums and six imperials produced. It was bottled in June 2011. Next year they will release the 2006, and the following vintage to be released in 2019, will be 2009. Further than that they don't know, as the only newer vintage in bottle today is 2010 and they are about to bottle 2011 now.
