This 300 gram bag usually contains 12-14 cookies, and have perennially been one of our most popular Christmas treats. Invented by monks in Germany in the 13th century, lebkuchen comes in a wide variety of flavors and shapes. Like much baking from the past, these delights actually gain in flavor as they age, as the almond, ginger, chocolate, anise, cloves, allspice, nutmeg and other flavor notes slowly become homogenized, creating a flavor that we like to call omg. You will love them too! We have opened bags as late as may and found them still delicious (they wouldn't have survived that long if we had found them earlier); so they take a long while before drying out. Do not refrigerate - that will stop the maturing process, and while your cookies will be yummy - they can get yummier!
